The famous cross country race in thorpe, dovedale since 1953

  • FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF OUR MARSHALs
  • we have started to organise the children's race from 2010 and it is becoming quite popular. last year we had 76 participants
  • ​the race is for under 9's (8 and UNDER) and under 12's (11 AND UNDER). if you would like to (and don't get too tired before the main dash) you can accompany your children, but in the past most children ran on their own
  • it is best to come early for registration. registration opens from 9:00 am and quickly becomes quite busy - GO TO THE SEPARATE SIGN ON QUEUE FOR THE CHILDREN'S RACE, ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT OF THE SIGNING ON TENT
  • a parent or guardian needs to register their child / children
  • the children's race finishes before the start of the main dash. therefore the start is at 10:00 am prompt!!
  • there will be marshals on the course, but everyone runs at his/her own risk
  • the course does have some slippery parts, so please do take care
  • there are prizes for the winners and runners up, boys and girls, for both the u8's and u10's and for the first school
  • the course is marked on the map above. the grid is 1 kilometre

FIRST AID

THE mini DASH IS A children's race of 1 1/4 mile around the foot of thorpe cloud.


the race is for under 12's (11 AND UNDER). the main race is not suitable for under 12's and children under 12 are therefore encouraged to take part in the mini dash.


the start of the race is at the far end of thorpe pastures, through the gate at the bottom of thorpe cloud. 


after the start the race goes clockwise round thorpe cloud, down to the river dove. alongside the river dove to the stepping stones (not over them and not through the river). 


then the difficult part, uphill through lin dale to finish under loud applause and cheering from all the runners and spectators through the main finish



  • FIRST AID IS PROVIDED BY RED CROSS
  • THEIR CARAVAN IS NEAR THE FINISH SHOULD YOU NEED ANY HELP
  • THEY HAVE A ROUGH TERRAIN AMBULANCE CAPABLE OF ACCESSING ALL PARTS OF THE ROUTE
  • ​THE MARSHALS ARE IN CONTACT VIA RADIO WITH THE START / FINISH AREA AND CAN SUMMON HELP IF REQUIRED
